Frequently Asked Questions
How can I connect solar panels to my electrical circuit (series vs parallel)?
Solar panels can be connected in series or in parallel to meet your electrical circuit size and power demands.
In series: the operating voltage output adds up, while the system current output is the same as that of one panel.
In parallel: the operating current output will add up, while the system voltage output will be the same as the output of one solar panel.
To achieve optimum power output and system rating for your power system, you can use both parallel and series connections.
How many solar panels do I need?
The best way to gauge how many solar panels you need is to understand the power load needed for your system.
Power is measured in watts, and the capacity is commonly measured in Watt-hours (multiplying power output in watts by the required number of hours of operation multiplied by a safety factor of 1.5-2). Therefore, it is wise to size your battery bank first based on the minimum required capacity, and then accordingly, decide how much input power and how many panels are needed.
Why is my solar panel under producing?
Solar panel performance may be hindered for a number of reasons. Most commonly environmental conditions such as indirect sunlight, temperature rise, cloudy sky, and dirt and stain build up on the top glass will cause a reduced power output.
Will this panel produce power in overcast conditions?
Yes, it will. Made of high-quality materials, this Renogy solar panel still works during cloudy weather conditions. But please note that the power conversion is not as high as on sunny days.
Why are my solar panels underproducing?
The performance of a solar panel may be hindered for a number of reasons. Most commonly environmental conditions, such as indirect sunlight, temperature rise, cloudy sky, and dirt and stain build up on the top glass, which can lead to a lower efficiency.
What does the 12V/24V in the product title of the solar panel mean? Why is it different from the value on the label/specification sheet of the solar panel?
The 12V/24V in product titles (ex. 150W 12V CIGS Solar panel) does not refer to the actual voltage (Voc or Vmp) of the solar panels, but rather to the voltage of the solar system or energy storage system to which the panel is best suited. The voltage of the solar panel must be higher than the solar system voltage.

    GOOD PV

Higher power output: A 200W solar panel offers a higher power output compared to lower wattage panels. This means it can generate more electricity from sunlight, allowing you to meet your energy needs more efficiently.

    Great all weather panel.

Posted by Iplik Chiolu on May 12th 2023

I bought three of these 200w panels to keep a Bluetti AC 200p charged for home backup. I mounted them on a wheeled platform. In full sun I’ve seen over 500 watts total from these panels . Even during overcast conditions I saw over 200 watts output. Connected in series they charged the 2000 watt Bluetti from 10% to 100% in 3 hrs and 40 mins. This exceeded my expectations. Well made product. Price was lower than other name brand panels. Haven’t had need to use Renogy customer support.

    Panels

The first panel I bought and use on our off grid cabin work great. First time I hooked them up the output was more than 200 watts per panel. And now we bought more to install on our Sprinter van. Hasn’t happened yet

Good quality panels and output capacity for the price

Posted by Gordon Hopkins on Jan 18th 2023

I bought two of these panels and have them on a ground-mount on our rear deck with a fixed orientation close to true south and an adjustable angle from 10 to 70 degrees for different times of the year. They are workings well but in winter, with the sun low and days short, I don't get a lot of power collected because I also have trees and hedges that cut of most of the early and late day sun.

Mounted 2 200 watt panels side by side on my Sprinter between my front MaxFan and rear Skylight this Spring. They have worked flawlessly.
